The Vietnam war was declared in 1956 and ended in 1975. The war opposed on the one hand, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (the north), supported materially by the Eastern bloc and China and on the other hand, the Republic of Vietnam (the south) militarily supported by the army of the United States, supported by several allies like Australia and South Korea. We will ask the following question: What was the role of the United States during this war?
