Amymoné explique à Poséidon la raison de sa venue, mais
celui-ci a déjà succombé au charme de la Danaïde, et s'unit à
elle . Ravie de pouvoir appliquer les consignes paternelles,
Amymoné se donne au dieu et s'en trouve récompensée .
Poséidon l'autorise en effet à retirer le trident du rocher et,
à sa grande surprise, de chacun des trois trous jaillit un filet
d'eau. Cette source, baptisée Amymoné, donne naissance
au fleuve Lerne réputé intarissable.
