Later, his family decides to sell all the animals from the zoo and to move over to Canada, having his family and
all the animals on the same boat.
However a storm occurs and Pi is thrown onto a life boat with several animal.
Richard Parker, the tiger and Pi are left alone on the boat after all the other animals have been eaten up either
by the hyena or the tiger.
Pi then realises he will have to survive with what is left in the boat and try to survive with the biggest fear of
being eaten up by Richard Parker or dying of hunger.
The life boat is stored with biscuits, water, water purifiers,
a whistle and a book for surviving at sea.
Thanks to the book, Pi builds a raft made of oars and life jackets, that
he attaches to the boat with a rope, creating a separate territory between Pi and Richard Parker.
At some point, Pi loses his mind and fantasises about different kind of foods ?exchanging? ideas with the tiger,
who is a meat eater.
Pi does not approve being a vegetarian but realises it is Richard Parker's preferences.
During that time another man from another life boat, attacks Pi, being desperate for food.
Luckily, Richard
Parker protects Pi and manages to kill the man.
Later they arrive on a dessert island made out of trees, roots, leaves, fresh water, and plants.
Pi later discovers
that the island is filled with cannibals, making Pi and Richard Parker leave immediately grabbing a handful of
fresh fruits.
Pi and Richard Parker stay on the boat in the middle of the ocean for a long time until they arrive in Mexico.
Richard Parker runs away and is never to be seen again.
Pi though is brought back within humanity given food.
He is questioned on his survival but in the end nobody believes his story at all.
Pi then decides to make up
another story.
The climax of this novel is in part three, when the reader discovers Pi has survived all along and when later, he
explains two different versions of his story leaving the others to decide which one is real, since they wouldn't.
