Myths and heroes Myths and heroes A myth is a real or ctitious story. Traditionally, it is an oral narrative which is passed on from generation to generation to explain the events which make the culture, the identity, and the practices of a society. Also it can contain a morality which the hero will try to transmit. A hero is a person who makes sacrices for a cause which he nds just and noble. Why are myths and heroes important to our society? Myths provide an escape from our day-to-day environment by telling fascinating stories which we can become identied. For instance Romeo and Juliet represent the myth of eternal love, while Harry Potter shows the victory of love against the darkness. Also the story of Peter Pan embodies the dream of everyone to A myth is a real or fictitious story. In sport, Respect is also important but athletes transmit others values.

For instance, Mohammed Ali, heavyweight champion of the world, teaches the importance of the determination, the courage and the will through his fight.

He shows us that we should never give up in front of the difficulty because the perseverance always pays. Also, some heroes are important because they protect us by serving their country.

Some men and women are ready to put their life in danger and to sacrifice it just to save people they don't even know.

For example during the Second World War, soldiers left to the fight, giving up their family to serve their country and to protect the citizens.

Their honor is unflinching because they are conscious that the safety of a nation rests on their shoulders.

Firefighters and policemen are in the same position.

Often they are confronted with extreme situations as a robbery or a fire.

In these moments, they don't think one second and save lives in danger because they prefer rescue someone rather than protect their own life.

For instance during September 11th, 343 firemen and 59 policemen died for helping people to came down the stairs with their 60kg of equipment on the back.
