Equivalent (geometry). Equivalent (geometry), term used to describe figures that have different shapes but equal areas or different shapes but equal volumes. A circle and a square that both have areas of 15 cm, for example, are equivalent, as are a cylinder and a cube that both have volumes of 27 cm3.
