James Cook was born October 27, 1728, a modest family of Marton (Yorkshire), England.

 

He took his first steps as an apprentice seaman in the merchant navy, was initiated for several years to navigation, mathematics, astronomy and the rapidly rising levels of the hierarchy.

Its future in the merchant navy is already decided, but Cook has other plans in mind: the navy.

 

In 1755 he refused the proposal of command of the ship Friendship and enlisted as a seaman in the Royal Navy (RN), while Britain was engaged in the Seven Years War.

James Cook part in the siege of Quebec City and used it to map the entire mouth of the St. Lawrence.

« After this long and perilous expedition, James Cook became one of the largest and most famous explorers of his time.

His return to Britain was greeted with honors, he was promoted to Captain of the Royal Navy and received an honorary comfortable retirement.

Third expedition: 1776 -1779 It is aboard the Resolution he began his third and last voyage, After a first stop in New Zealand, he became the first European to land in Hawaii in 1778.

The same year he studied the North American coast, landed on Vancouver Island.

In 1779, the expedition returned t o Hawaii but the climate between some islanders and British subjects is increasingly tense.

James Cook was stabbed and died February 17, 1779.. »
