Is one of the five boroughs of the city with The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. This borough is the most densely populated of New York City. Manhattan is a major commercial, financial, and cultural center of the world. Many major radio, television, and telecommunications companies in the United States are based here, as well as much news, magazine, book, and other media publishers. Géographie: Manhattan is loosely divided into Downtown, Midtown, and Uptown, with Fifth Avenue dividing Manhattan's east and west sides. The " Big Apple " dates back to the 1920s, when a reporter heard the term used by New Orleans stable hands to refer to New York City's racetracks and named his racing column "Around The Big Apple." Transportation: Manhattan is unique in the United States of America for intense use of public transportation and lack of private car ownership.

While 88% of Americans nationwide drive to their jobs and only 5% use public transportation, mass transit is the dominant form of travel for residents of Manhattan, with 72% of borough residents using public transportation and only 18% driving to work.
