Greek Daughter of Atlas and Pleione;
wife of Sisyphus; one of the "Seven Sisters" called
the Pleiades. Merope was sometimes named "the
lost star," the one invisible to the naked eye. It is said
that she hid her light in shame for having married a
mortal, and a disreputable one at that.
