The novel is very well described (for the War).

The most factor is that the author is a woman.

Who can say that a woman can write such a realistic War novel? Well, Pat Barker did. First of all we will see how the author write such a realistic novel and where the idea of writing a War novel came from.

And finally, if the author denounce her own idea of the War. The book takes place frequently in the War Hospital named Craiglockhart, where almost each patients were treated by a famous psychiatrist who were William Rivers.

There was no only wounded soldiers in the hospital. Craiglockhart was considered a mental hospital too.

Like in the novel, a poet named Siegfried Sassoon was sent to this hospital because he denounced the desperation about the war. The hardest role in the hospital is Rivers role.

He was required to sent his soldiers to the front with the demands of the war and has to take care personally each of his patients.

Even most of the patients were unable to go to the war, he was required to sent them.
