The idea of progress Intro : The notion of «The idea of progress» is usually associated with science and technology because both improve people's lives. We can differenciate three kinds of progress, scientific, technological and social progress. 1)First of all there is the scientific progress, that is to say the development of scientific knowledge in several fields. In my opinion, stem cells research is a huge improvement in medecine, even if an ethics debate is surrounding this technique. Recent studies have shown these cells may hold the secret to treatment, even cures, for some of our major dideases like Parkinson or Alzheimer. Because they are undifferentiated, scientists may be able to choose what the function of the cell will be (if you need skin, stem cells become skin). 3)2) In the educational field, one of the most interesting aspect is that technology enables anyone
to get into higher education with MOOCS (Massive Open Online courseS), whether they live at the
other end of the world or not.
You can connect whenever it suits you, wherever you want, with
whoever professor you feel comfortable with.
If you have difficulties understanding, you can watch
the same course again and again until you understand.
Another advantage is that most MOOCS are
quite cheap compared with what you would have to pay if you enroled at university.
It cannot be
denied that MOOCS offer new prospects both for students and teachers..
