Aegle (1) (Brightness) Greek Daughter of Asclepius,
the god of medicine, and Lempetia, a
daughter of Helios, or of Epione. The origin of her
name is unclear, though it may refer to the health of
the human body. Her sisters had names that related
to their father's role: Panacea, which means all healing,
and Iaso, whose name means healthy.
Aegle (2) (Dazzling Light) Greek A Dryad, or
wood Nymph; one of the sisters known as the Hesperides;
either the daughters of Erebus (Darkness) and
Nyx (Night) or the daughters of Atlas and Pleione
or Hesperis. Aegle's sisters, those named by people
writing during the classic age of Greek mythology,
were Erytheia, Arethusa, and Hesperia.
Aegle (3) Greek The most beautiful of the Naiads,
fresh water Nymphs who guarded springs, wells, brooks,
and small bodies of water; daughters of Zeus.
