OSCAR WILDE’S BIOGRAPHY   1.      Oscar Wilde was born on the 16th of October 1854 in Dublin in Ireland.His entire name is Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde.   2.    His father was Sir William Wilde, a doctor, who wrote two books, he became the Assistant Commissioner to the 1851 Census for the medical statistics. After he opened a Dublin practice specializing in ear and eyes diseases. In 1844, he founded St. Mark’s Ophthalmic Hospital, built entirely as his own cost. His mother was Jane Francesca Elgee, a renowned writer and poet of her time. She wrote revolutionary poems under the pseudonym “Speranza” for an irish newspaper.   3.    After initial schooling at home, Oscar went on to study at Portora Royal School in Fermanagh. Upon leaving the school, he enrolled in the Trinity College in Dublin in 1871. He won the Berkeley Gold Medal at Trinity and was awarded a scholarship to the Oxford University. He studied there from 1874 to 1878 and became involved with the Atheistic movement. While at Oxford, he recited his first poem in 1878 for which he was awarded the Newdigate Prize. In the same year, he graduated with a double first in classical moderations.   4.       Wilde was a bright and bookish child. He was pretty good in Greek and Roman studies. He won some prizes . He was awarded the Royal School Scholarship to attend Trinity College in Dublin, he placed first in school’s classics examination and received the college’s Foundation Scholarship, the highest honor awarded to undergraduates. He was brilliant and very clever scholastically. He studied classics.   5.    After graduating from Oxford, when he met and courted Florence Balcombe. However, when she rejected his proposal to marriage, Oscar left Ireland permanently in 1878. He met Constance Lloyd and fell in love with her. So on may 29 1884, Oscar married Constance Lloyd.   6.   Cyril Holland, born in 1885, was the older of the two sons of Oscar Wilde and Constance Lloyd and brother to Vyvyan Holland, who was born the following year, and died on the 10 October 1967.   7.  Lord Douglas, of his first name Alfred, is known because of his relation with Oscar Wilde. He’s a poet born the 22 october 1870, and died the 20 mars 1945. Oscar Wilde and Lord Douglas developed a tumultuous relation that would eventually lead to the downfall of Oscar Wilde who did not try to conceal his sexual interest and openly lived with him for years.   8.  The relation between Oscar Wilde and Lord Douglas. Douglas’ father didn’t approve their relation and he was determined to end it. During the opening night of The Importance of Being Ernest, John planned to humiliate Oscar Wilde and to ruin his image in front of the public. John had been arrested, but those who arrested John were interested of the lifestyle of Oscar Wilde and Alfred Douglas. Oscar Wilde underwent a lot of trials, finally he was convicted  of homosexuality and given a two-year sentence of hard labor. While he was in prison, he wrote a 50,000 word letter addressed to Douglas, which he gave to his friend Robert Ross on his release. Further, Vyvyan published it in 1999, though its first complete and unedited version was published in 1962, titled as The Letters of Oscar Wilde.     9.  He was released on 19 May 1897 after which he took a self exile from society, though he did not end his association with his male friends including Canadian journalist Robert Ross. He changed his name in Sebastian Melmoth, he settled in Paris and reunited with his previous social circle. Oscar Wilde died of Meningitis on 30 when he was 46 November 1900 and he now rests in Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris where Robert Ross’s ashes were added in the angel-adorned tomb after his death. Oscar was baptized into the Roman Catholic Church by Robert Ross before his death.
