CHINATOWN

Chinatown of New York is the main destination of the Chinese immigrants, With a population estimated between 150 000 and 300 000 inhabitants. Immigration began in 1870 with about 200 immigrants In 1900, they were 7000, but with only 200 women. Ah Ken is the first Chinese immigrant, he opened a cellar to cigars, it is thanks to him that the population augmented.

ToTuujjj  Today Chinatown is a tourist place. We meet more than 200 Chinese restaurants, numerous fish shops, Chinese groceries and jewelery shop. Chinatown was severely affected by the murder attempts of September 11th, 2001  because was close to Ground zero, tourism and trade took time to move off again.

It   It doesn’t exist really of ancient monuments in Chinatown. Tourists stop in general in the Museum of Chinese in America and in the temple Buddhist Mahayana, the most important temple of Chinatown with inside a splendid gold Buddha.
