The scene takes place in Mali’s house, when he came back home. Jagan and Mali are having dinner and Jagan starts to ask questions about his son’s future plans.
_”So... what do you want to do after high school?” Jagan asked with an innocent air.
_”Well,” said Mali with hesitation,” I wanted to talk about this with you. But to tell you the truth, I fear your reaction.”
_”Oh… really? Actually I had a discussion with your uncle Paul who teaches at your high school,” responded his father, “and I don’t really agree about what you want to do after school! Why America? Why?”
_”I know it seems strange” Mali explained, “but I’ve got good reasons! I want to…”
_ “I don’t care why you want to go there” interrupted his father. “Did you think about your family? You won’t see us any more!” he shouted desperately to his son.
A brief moment of silence reigned in the kitchen, then the son retorted:
_”I know dad, but please… try to understand me” entrusted Mali.” I’m aware that I’ll be separated from my family, but I long to discover a new country and new cultures, you can’t forbid me to realize my dream!”
_”Of course… but I’m worried about you. I know that you feel may betrayed as a result of my reaction, but it’s hard for me to let my son leave the house” reminded Jagan.
_”Whatever your you decision will be, I want you to know that I’ll realize my dream, one way or another!” protested Mali, annoyed by his father’s reaction before standing up from his chair and leaving his room.
