Barbatruc Division of nephrology Standford University School of Medecine Washington, La. 92583-4582 Dear Dr. Barbatruc, Being a fifth-year student of medicine at the university of Rennes, I am required to do a work placement in a teaching hospital. I have decided to take advantage of this work placement of this clerkship to develop my medical knowledge and as I am particularly interested in discovering medical practices in the United States, to experience medicine as it is practiced there. As you are considered one of the leading practitioners in nephrology and internal medicine, Dr. Blondinet, Head of the Nephrology Department at the University of Paris, has encouraged me to write to you about the possibility of carrying out a work placement in your institution. As I am interested in both of these areas, either of which would be a good complement to the practical training I have received to date. I will be available from June 1 to October 30 1996. In addition, I will be in New York for two weeks in March 1996 and would be happy to meet with you then. I have enclosed my resume and a copy of my transcripts.
