American biochemist Birth April 6, 1928 Place of Chicago, Illinois Birth Known for Discovering the double-helix structure of DNA Sharing the 1962 Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine with Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins for the discovery of the structure of DNA Career 1950 Received his Ph.D. from the University of Indiana 1951-1953 Discovered the structure of DNA while working with Francis Crick as a researcher at the Cavendish Laboratory of the University of Cambridge 1961 Became a full professor at Harvard University 1968 Accepted a position as director of the Cold Springs Harbor Laboratory of Quantitative Biology 1968 Wrote The Double Helix, a narrative of the discovery of the structure of DNA Did You Watson entered the University of Chicago at age 15.
