Myths and heroes Today I’m going deal with the notion of myths and heroes. To begin with , I would like to define the key words . At all times, myths are told which are aimed at explaining the origins of humanity and narrating the foundations of a given community.. All culture have myths and this mythology has been developed over time, these narratives thus deliver a universal message about the human condition and also define elements of the collective identity of a social group ,they have a great symbolic power, and this may be a major reason why they survive as long as they do. While A hero is a person who is admired for his courage, outstanding achievements and noble qualities, it’s a person that really intent on making the world a better place for all people .Each age was marked by great men and women that took the risk of bypassing the laws to claim their rights and to demand equality, and I chose to approach two heroes, Martin Luther King, and Malala Yousefzai, that aimed at making the voice of their community heard and taken into account. How have their actions allowed them to access both the rank of heroes and how did they transform their stories into true myths? Many opportunities were presented to the second-class citizens to claim their rights and to demand equality but only a few of them revolted and risked their lives.First of all, some personalities struggled against unfair and discriminatory regulations in a pacifistic and non-violent protest by way of tenacity and perseverance. Among them, Martin Luther King, a minister, was one of the most important civil rights activists, the leader of the Civil Rights Movement and the youngest man ever being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He believed in Gandhi’s principles of non-violent civil disobedience and he decided to try to change the course of History in a pacifistic way with marches, demonstrations, and boycotts, to claim his rights and to free an entire community. He has organized the Montgomery bus boycott in 1955. It began when Rosa Parks refused to move to make way for a white man. On August 28th, 1963 during the march on Washington, 200,000 black people listened to his speech, “I have a dream”, the most famous speech in History. Speaking as he did, he educated, he inspired, and he has guided not only people who were there, but people throughout America and future generations, so he embodies true valor , freedom, equality and liberty .Thus, MLK accessed to the rank of hero and left his mark in history. And today his image is mythic, Martin Luther King Day is a national Holiday in USA (3rd Monday in January), and there are over 730 streets named after him, that’s what we call a mythmaker. Let’s now, talk about a young Pakistani girl shot for her outspoken campaign involving women’s education, who has quickly become a global phenomenon She initially came to prominence when, as 11 years old , she wrote a diary for BBC Urdu giving an account of how her school in MINGORA town dealt with the Taliban’s edict to close girls’ schools . In October 2012 she was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman for “ promoting secular education “ . She recovered from the attack and was even more determined to continue her campaign which is now worldwide. She has faced adversity, and challenged society to get her voiced heard Having a tea with the Queen , chatting with the President Obama in the Oval Office and being , in 2014 the youngest person ever to receive a Nobel Peace Prize, Malala recognition’s in the west continue to grow, and the power of her worlds and ideas continue to influence the world, as she said in the UN youth assembly on her 16th birthday :” One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world. Education is the only solution. Education first “This growing movement of young people around the world have since launched the#UpForSchool petition - a unified demand for urgent action from world leaders to get every child into school without danger or discrimination. To sum up,we can say that when we’re young we believe that heroes are the ones we see in cartoons ,but while growing up , we understand that a hero is much more than that , heroes are people who inspired others ,change lives of millions and transform their stories into myths that remain rooted our minds and our heart , as Christopher Reeve says : “A hero is an ordinary person doing things in an extra ordinary way.”
