Greek Goddess of vengeance; personification
of the wrath of the gods toward those who
had hubris, a Greek word meaning exaggerated pride
in one's achievements or good fortune. Nemesis
rewarded virtue and punished wickedness. At first,
Nemesis was an abstract concept. In later mythology
she was personified as a daughter of Nyx (Night) and
Erebus (Darkness), a powerful force.
