Sun Yat-sen - biography. Chinese revolutionary leader Birth November 12, 1866 Death March 12, 1925 Place of Birth Xiangshan, China Political Kuomintang (KMT) Party Known for Leading the revolutionary struggle against the declining Qing dynasty Milestones 1879 Joined his brother in Honolulu to attend school 1894 Graduated from the College of Medicine in Hong Kong, but quickly lost interest in medicine and turned his attention to revolutionary activities 1894 In Hawaii, formed the Revive China Society, an organization that intended to destroy the Qing dynasty 1897 Traveled to Japan, gaining support from Japanese leaders and the large Chinese community in Yokohama 1912 Founded the Republic of China, but because he lacked a sufficient power base, Sun was forced to allow a Qing general, Yuan Shikai, to assume control 1913 Fled to Japan after leading a failed revolt against Yuan's government 1923 Reshaped the KMT after the model of the Soviet Communist Party and won KMT control of southern regions of China 1924 Admitted the Chinese Communist Party to the KMT Did You Sun became famous in Europe in 1897 after he published Kidnapped in London, an account of his capture by Chinese authorities in Know England. Sun's revolutionary activities relied heavily on funds generated in Chinese communities in Honolulu and Japan.
