When she was being pursued by Pan, Syrinx called
upon her father for help. He turned her into a reed.
Pan consoled himself by fashioning the syrinx reeds
into a seven-reed pipe. The syrinx, or panpipes, is an
instrument still played by shepherds in Greece.
