English novelist and critic Birth January 25, 1882 Death March 28, 1941 Place of London, England Birth Known for Using a stream-of-consciousness technique to reveal her characters' inner lives in her experimental, innovative fiction Milestones 1904 Moved to the Bloomsbury area in London with her family after the death of her father; their home became the center of the intellectual Bloomsbury Group around 1905 1912 Married writer Leonard Woolf 1915 Published her first novel, The Voyage Out 1917 Founded Hogarth Press with her husband, and published Two Stories, of which one was written by Virginia and titled 'The Mark on the Wall,' and one was written by Leonard, titled 'Three Jews' 1919 Published the realistic novel Night and Day, a story of two friends in London 1922 Published Jacob's Room, an experimental novel characterized by the stream-of-consciousness technique 1925 Published Mrs. Dalloway, a novel that focuses on the thoughts and feelings of its characters; published The Common Reader, a first collection of critical essays, to be followed by a second set in 1932 1929 Published the feminist essay A Room of One's Own, which pays tribute to female writers 1931 Published The Waves, a complicated and experimental novel 1941 The novel Between the Acts was posthumously published.
