Albania is a mountainous country (average altitude 700 m). Over three quarters of its area is covered by mountainous massifs (which generally exceed 2000m).
In the heart of the Balkans, Albania is a Southern European country on the same latitude as Naples. In the North, the limestone Albanian Alps is an area of very high rainfall. The mountains of the centre are drier and rich in minerals.
