Bulgaria is the world's third largest producer of tobacco.
The North of the country is occupied by the rich plain of the Danube. South of the Balkans chain are high mountain ranges with deep valleys and the Maritsa basin.
To the North of the Balkans, there is a continental climate, with average rainfall
of 550 mm per year, while in the South a transitional Mediterranean climate produces a land of scrub and conifers.
