The Danube, is wide as it passes through Hungary cutting the country in two, links between East and West are mainly by ferry. 7 bridges cross it of which 6 are in Budapest.
This is a country of low lying plains surrounded by mountains. The valley of the Danube and its tributary, the Tisa, which floods regularly in Spring, in Summer is a landscape of open prairies and marshes
