The deforestation of the Amazonian rainforest Introduction The Amazon rainforest is the most important forest for the world by his size and his benefits for the life. Based in 7 countries which are all situated in South of America ( but at 69% in Brazil) , this forest is very important for our environment because she is considered as the lungs of the world. The oxygen producted by the forest is essential for the conditions of humans living. It is one of the largest biodiversity in the world with thousands of plant and animal species. But the various operations have led to massive deforestation of the forest. From 1978 to 1998, more than 98 hectares were destroyed... Deforestation of tropical forests (and therefore the Amazon rainforest) is a major cause of currently observed climate change (melting of the ice caps, extreme weather patterns ...) The deforestation is growing up day by day and if we do not end the slaughter, the consequences could be dramatic not only for the biodiversity of the forest but also for all the planet earth... In this discussion we will answer to 3 primordial questions about this phenomenon which are : -What are the causes of deforestation ? -What are the consequences ? -And, What can we do about it ? What are the causes of the deforestation ?? The logging The wood's industrial exploitation has a very strong impact on the forest's life. The cut wood is always rising since the exploitation of the forest is not yet economically viable. The Amazonian's wood is really famous all over the world for his quality and usually used in the world's production of pieces of furniture. It exists two types of tree cutting which are clearcuts (when farmers cut all the trees plot that interests even if some are not salable) and selective logging that involve cutting a tree searched (eg mahogany) without cutting other trees. The cutting of one tree can provoke the destruction of the others trees around there. The parts of the forest affected by cutting down cover an area as large as that of clearcuts. Here is a map which shows the parts of the forest which are the most affected. Moreover the roads build for the ev...
