Immigration in New York
Since the XIX century, New york is one of the principal door concerning the immigration in USA: from 1892 to 1954, 12 millions of immigrants arrived in America. In 1907, 1 004 756 persons passed by Ellis Island ; it’s the biggest year of immigration.
Between, 1880 and 1920, peoples came to Europe (Italy, Grece, Poland, Russia,..). During this period, Jewes avoid pogroms : in 1915, they was 1,5 millions in New York.
The City of New York is situated on the East side of America, in the mouth of Hudson river and halfway between Washington DC and Boston.
The town is constitued by five boroughs :
- Manhattan
- Brooklyn
- The Queens
- The Bronx
- Stanten Island
