This text is an extract from the novel « The Spire « written in 1964 and set during the medieval times. The central character is a priest wo supervises the building of a cathedral and he sees this mission as a test of his faith in God. In this extract, there is a storm which is taking place so that the weather affects everything inclunding the surroundings, the cathedral and also the priest who is losing control when it comes to the conclusion where he needs to take control over the events.
This text explores how the priest’s faith is challenged by God and tried in the course of building this cathedral by making the weather being like a personal assault on the priest.
