 Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 15, 1929 - April 4, 1968) was an American black pastor, activist, humanitarian,

and leader of the African-American civil rights movement. He is best known for his role in the advancement of

civil rights by using nonviolence to civil status and based on his Christian beliefs. He wanted black and white

Americans to live happily together.

 It was then that he was interested in the work of Gandhi, whose ideas became the heart of his own philosophy,

based on non-violence. That's how he became a civil rights activist early in his career.

In 1955, King was invited to take the head of a movement of boycott of \"Montgomery Bus\" in protest against the

application of the racial segregation in the public transportation because a black worker who refused to give his

place to a white passenger , had just been stopped.

In 1957, he also helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), an American civil rights

organization, of which he was the first president. With the SCLC, King led an unsuccessful struggle in 1962

against segregation in Albany, Georgia (the Albany movement),

He helped organize the 1963 nonviolent protests in Birmingham, Alabama and the 1963 Washington march,

where he delivered his famous \"I have a dream\" speech. Following this speech, he was ranked as one of the

greatest speakers in American history.

« In 1968, King was planning a national occupation of Washington, DC, who to be called the Poor People's Campaign, when he was assassinated on April 4 in Memphis, Tennessee.

His death was followed by riots in many US cities. King was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal.

Day was created as a holiday in many cities and states beginning in1971 and as a US federal holiday in 1986.

Hundreds of streets in the United States have been renamed in his honor and a county in Washington State was also famous for him.

The Martin Luther King Memorial, Jr.

on the National Mall in Washington, DC, was dedicated in 2011.     Today, he is a man admired for his achievements for the humanity.

Martin Luther King have bravely fought all his life to defend human rights in general and the civil rights of blacks in particular, against segregation and injustice.

In his struggle, he showed non-violence, advocating civil disobedience as a way to fight against injustice.

This pacifist, influenced by Gandhi and also by his beliefs since he was pastor, took away his life because it represented a threat to the racist order of his time.

So, we can say that Martin Luther King Jr.

is a hero,. »
