The Gothic, as literary movement, appeared in England in the eighteenth century. The starting point was the resurgence of an esthetic value granted to the vestiges of the medieval architecture, in what they evoke of grave, dark, of worrying and about mysterious: fortresses in ruins, abandoned castles, an isolated place, a hunted manor... These places, to which come to be added appropriate natural elements: forest sinks, full moon, storm, rain etc. Cause "night-" impressions. They inspire the fear, the mystery, the melancholy, the idea...
« These scenes then contain the typical gothic elements of mystery, fear, gloomy, in places where you would not be there. »
