In my part, I want to speak about waht represents the ocean.
he Rime of the Ancient Mariner is set in a time when, once you crossed a certain
point in your ship, you could expect not to see other people for a long, long time.
The ocean represents the mysteries of the human soul.
When the Mariner pollutes his
soul by killing the albatross, it's not a surprise to see that the ocean becomes
polluted with slime and horrible creatures.
Moreover, the imagery of the vast,
vacant ocean, particularly once the rest of the crew has died, expresses a
condition of spiritual solitude and loneliness.
It's the kind of setting that makes
you realize we're truly all alone in this world.
But, after the Mariner breaks the
curse against him, the strange colors on the ocean disappear, but then a bunch of
angels turn the poem into a zombie movie.
They create their own strange colors and
beautiful song-like sounds.
But, what represent the auditory imagery or in other words the entire symphony of
voices???
Auditory imagery is a mental representation - imagery - using your auditory
(hearing) sense.
It is the power of your mind to create auditory "pictures".
Essentially - it is hearing sounds in your mind.
That's why the entire symphony of
voices created an harmonious tone of part v covering all the horror imagery of the
sailors.
In the begining of part 5 we find The Mariner drinking water; that's mean as I said
his ressurection, water being the symbol of life; without water, there is no life.
Now, I want to come back to the begining when I said that this poem led me into a
world of Sf and also Horror.
Firstle is a science fiction world because of the
supernatural elements like: the single black cloud on the sky,all kind of
activities in the sky,the ship sailing without no wind, in that time the main
condition for a ship to sail was to be windy weather, dead man walking, spirits
singing and talking, and so on.
I called this part a horror one because the mariner undergoes terrifying
experiences as he confronts supernatural wonders like dead man walking around him,
doing their jobs as sailors, singing and others.
I tihink also that in this horror
world the author makes the point that beyond the boundaries of the known world are
many strange and fearful sights that explorers will encounter.
In conslusion I want to say that it's hard to separate the religious, spiritual,
and supernatural in this part:that's why I say to you: welcome to Romanticism!!!.
