Greek The sinister seer who prophesied
doom throughout Homer's iliAd. He was a
priest of Apollo and was called the son of Thestor.
Calchas accompanied the Achaeans (Greeks) on their
expedition to Troy during the Trojan War. It was
Calchas who advised Agamemnon to sacrifice his
daughter Iphigenia to gain fair winds for the expedition
to Troy, and it was Calchas who asserted that
there would be no victory for the Greeks without the
help of Achilles.
