Greek The daughter of Chryses, a
priest of Apollo. During the Trojan War, the Greek
war hero Achilles took her prisoner. Considered as
war booty, Chryseis was then seized by Agamemnon,
leader of the Greeks. Her father, Chryses, came to the
Greek camp to rescue his daughter, but Agamemnon
defended against the attack. Thereupon Apollo sent a
plague among the Greeks. Many died and Agamemnon
at last released Chryseis to her father to appease
Apollo's anger.
