Greek A monster with three heads,
three bodies, and six hands. Geryon owned red cattle,
which were guarded by the two-headed dog, Orthrus,
and the herdsman, Eurytion. In his Tenth Labor, the
hero Heracles slew the dog and the herdsman. After
a fearsome battle, Heracles defeated Geryon.
From Geryon's blood sprang a tree that produced a
stoneless, cherrylike fruit that yielded a blood-red dye.
