(plural: Lapithae) Greek Mythical people
of Thessaly, in north-central Greece. Their king, Ixion,
fathered with Nephele (a cloud that Zeus had formed
in the likeness of Hera) the half-human, half-horse
creatures called Centaurs. Pirithoüs, half-brother of
the Centaurs, became the ruler of the Lapiths.
