Greek A son of Zeus and Laodemia
or Europa. In the Trojan War, Sarpedon was a hero,
the ally of King Priam. His particular friend was
Glaucus (1), who mourned his death (in Homer's
Iliad) at the hands of Patroclus. Zeus had Apollo
carry the body of Sarpedon from the battlefield to be
buried in Lydia, his homeland.
In an earlier legend, Sarpedon was the son of Zeus
and Europa, and the brother of Minos and Rhadamanthus.
He became king of Lydia. Zeus granted
him the privilege of living for three generations.
