Thessaly - Mythology. Greek The largest division of Greece, located in the eastern mainland, encircled by mountains except for the valley of Tempe in the northeast corner. Thessaly's mythical inhabitants were the Lapiths, whose king, Ixion, had fathered the Centaurs, creatures that were half human and half horse. It was also the home of the mythical Myrmidons, created by Zeus to increase Thessaly's population.
