ABORTION

Nowadays, abortion is a controversy subject that still shocked many people. Is it wrong to abort a fetus because of a gender? According to me, it is an act that I consider completely irresponsible for all possible reasons you can think of, especially for ethical and demographic reasons.

First of all, I am totally against sex-selection abortion for ethical reasons. Everyone has the right to be born and enjoyed life no matter their gender.  In some countries sons are much more gratified, HIGH-RANKING and PROFITABLE than daughters. Consequently, many people use abortion if the gender of their fetus is not the one that they were expected for . It is completely ridiculous. In reality, what proves that men are worth better than women? On what did they base themselves? In truth, these are just some unfounded facts. Moreover, women should not have the right to be abort for similar reasons as ‘’ gender of my fetus is not the one I was expected for’’.  People should think twice before doing this heartless act. For instance, you are a future mother, you are about to be abort because you are supposed to have a girl and you want a boy. If you go beyond your mind, you would not have been a part of this world if your mother would have though in the same way that you did!  Furthermore, some experts from American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology support the fact an abortion because of a gender is not ethical at all but with a medical reason, it can be acceptable.

Secondly, for the demographic part, gender selection abortion should be abolished. In India, sex-selection abortion is a method frequently used to avoid society problems that women cause.  According to BBC, most common reasons are about money and inequality of women in some cultures. For example, families mostly depend on sons, they earn more than women. Also, when a girl got married, the family has to give a dowry. Thus, female fetuses abortion will have a demographic impact between the number of men and the number of women. There are much more men than women. In 2002, the Hindu newspaper divulged that about one in seven female fetuses has been killed by abortion, in Delhi. This gap will have consequences on the rate of reproduction. as the years go, the gap is larger!

As the years go, the gap becomes bigger.

To conclude, it is wrong to abort a fetus because of a gender for ethical and demographic reasons. Those two arguments are clearly connected. It is completely unethical to abort a fetus because you were supposed to have a girl and you did not want to pay a dowry. How will it be in 2050 if we don’t stop abortion for non-medical reasons?
