This story talk about Eric a man who comitted suicide after losing his job during the
witch-hunt (period of get rid of comunist) after Jack, the lover of the sister of Eric denounced him to the HUAC.
In this text by Douglas Kennedy we know that Jack was suspected of being communist because he didn't want
to gives names, finally he decide to give the name of Eric to the HUAC because he doesn't want to lose his job.
Jack regrets but said that if he did not give the name of Eric to prove his innocence, someone would give his
own name to the HUAC.
As many artists, Arthur Miller denounced McCarthyism in "The Crucible" Arthur Miller
himself was questioned by the HUAC.
It shows how through this piece of beliefs taken to extremes can lead to
skidding and abominable collective behavior.
The story talk about the village of Salem, Abigail with the help of
other girls denounces some people of witchcraft.
Everything is degenerate in the village because superstition
will lead many people to the hanging.
Arthur Miller shows that the accusations were stupid, being accused
without evidence.
Art and more particularly the literature have power to show things, to convey a message as if
to protest, saying your disagreement.
For an example, Victor Hugo in The Last Day of a Condemned Man wrote
this novel to express his feelings that the death penalty should be abolished.
McCarthyism is really bad this is
shows in "The great wall of LA" and the comic, Jonathan Vankin means Joe Mc carthy as a heavy boozer very
paranoid.
As far as I'm concerned McCarthyism is not something that I knew very well before but it's very interesting.
I
really love this notion, I can't help thinking that it's stupid that people believe so easily in something.
What did Joe Mc carthy is an error, he is responsible of the death of many people.
You always learn from your
mistakes, you can do serious something , go to prison,
to serve your sentence and remember the lesson.
Although I have the feeling that a serious error is
unforgivable..
