More than a story about death and sex, Jeffrey Eugenides offers us an essay about the adolescence. Our incomprehension about teenagers is illustrate with the suicides of the Lisbon girls. The message of this book is summarized in the title Virgin Suicide, which depicts what kind of link between death and sex the author has chosen to deal with, that is to say : how some young girls (virgin) will kill themselves (suicides). So we can see in this text how the sex can be an interpretation to explain the Lisbon girls' suicides. But like the other hypothesis, it is not complete. So, if we use sex like a pretext to explain the girls' suicides, we can wonder why sex has affected only one of the Lisbon sisters, that is to say Lux, when all of them have commited suicide ? Even if the sex doesn't completely explain the suicides, it is really in the heart of the plot. The sex and the death are present every where in the Cecilia's suicide, with the Lux's behavior and in the Lisbon girls' everydays life (religion, adolescence…).

Our incomprehension about teenagers is illustrate with the suicides of the Lisbongirls.

The message of this book is summarized in the title Virgin Suicide, which depicts what kind of link between death and sex the author has chosen to deal with, that is to say : howsome young girls (virgin) will kill themselves (suicides).

So we can see in this text how the sex can be an interpretation to explain the Lisbon girls' suicides.

But like the other hypothesis, itis not complete.

So, if we use sex like a pretext to explain the girls' suicides, we can wonder why sex has affected only one of the Lisbon sisters, that is to say Lux, when all of them havecommited suicide ? Even if the sex doesn't completely explain the suicides, it is really in the heart of the plot.

The sex and the death are present every where in the Cecilia's suicide, withthe Lux's behavior and in the Lisbon girls' everydays life (religion, adolescence…).

Yet we are still in ignorance about the suicides.

And that's what the author wanted : that the reader can'tunderstand the reasons of the suicides, we must be in the same lake of understanding as the four narrators.. »
