No ifs and no butts... Identify the document The documents is an article entitled "No ifs and no butts... park bans smoking in plays area" and written by Mark Blunden and Emily Kilner. It was taken from a newspaper called Evening Standard and published on Monday 18th July 2011. The article deals with bans on smoking in plays area. It is composed of two parts: text and a picture. Description of the photo We observe in the picture a woman carrying her child. We can see that they seem happy, thanks to the close up. The woman is on the right side and the little boy on the left side. The look healthy, it is to illustrate the headline. They are both looking healthy to show that with the ban they are not in danger anymore. They can't be bothered by second-...

« b) The reason why the measure will be taken The measure will be taken because it will help families who are searching for a safe place for their children to be sure that the air they will breathe will be clean enough.

In others words, the ban will be useful for parents who are concerned and worried about their children going to the park and being subject to second-hand smoking which could make them sick after. c) People’s reaction and opinion We can see that people’s opinions are different.

Indeed, civil liberties campaigners think that the bar is “entirely disproportionate”.

It means that to their minds, the ban has no sense.

From parents’ point of view, the ban is a good thing for their children but they also think that smokers should be free to smoke everywhere they want (when they are in open places).

Moreover, Jonathan MacShane, cabinet members for community services believes that people are aware of the second-hand smoking problems and danger, so people have to be responsible and face the fact that children should be better protected d) The consequences of the measure in the feature In the long run, the measure could reduce the number of cancers in the borough, so prevent people from being sick.

It could also prevent young people from starting smoking because of the fact that they have seen fewer people smoking during their childhood.

Maybe, it could reduce the numbers of smokers. e) The main problem in the area The problem is that smokers let their butts on the floor thus children are playing in dirty ground.

The measure will clean grounds and the children could play in a clean area for good. V- Conclusion To conclude, the ban that will take effect in the borough of Hackney in London will be useful for parents who want to keep their children safe.

Moreover, there are different points of view about the ban.

Some are totally against and some think that it is really good.

Furthermore, the ban could really help in the future to prevent people from getting cancer. To my mind, this ban is a really good thing for non-smokers and for children who have the right to feel safe when they go to the parks.. »
