« The Salem trial how were women considered in those times ? In Puritan society, women were believed to have weaker constitutions that made them more likely to be inhabited by the Devil, women knowledgeable of herbal remedies were at risk of being accused of witchcraft.

Most women were housewives and mothers, some of them worked spinning clothes or had jobs in food preparations. In some towns littles girls could attend dame school to learn how to read, boarding schools for girls from better off families were also founded, even though women could get education and played an important role in their household, women were still dismissed and could not directly express their opinions on politics to their husband or others, women risked their lives if they openly opposed or doubted societal norms. Who accused and tried these women ? Women were mostly accused and tried by the puritans, one notable judge of the Salem with trial would be Samuel Sewall as he was the only judge to admit the errors of the trials. Women would also get accused by their neighbors or even other “afflicted” girls, it was the case for Tibuta, Sarah good and Sarah Osbourn, they were accused of witchcraft four of the sick girls. Many of the jurors of the trial were actually family members of the accusers which compromised their objectivity, judges who dared to raise doubt and speak out were suspected. Is there a rational explanation for their eerie actions ? Such a big and important trial.... »
