However,  the science has progressed to the point that it could be used to create designer babies. A Los Angeles clinic, Fertility Institute, announced that their new genetic diagnosis technique would soon offer couples \\\"a choice of gender, eye colour, hair colour and complexion  along with screening for genetic diseases.\\\"  Indeed, with Genetic Screening, parents can : making selection for enhanced athletic qualities. Creating the perfect body. Choosing a boy or a girl. Improving intelligence. Enable babies to fly. \\\"Its technically feasible and it can be done\\\" says Mark Hughes, director of a large fertility laboratory in Detroit. Indeed, it consists to the following method. A woman\\'s eggs are fertilized with sperm in a lab. That\\'s creating several embryos. Then, a single cell is removed each embryos and tested for biomarkers associated with the standards choose by the parents. Only embryos with the biomarkers for the required traits are placed in the woman\\'s womb. The procedure virtually guarantees that the child will have the traits implanted in the embryo.

Trait selection can be a service, it sounds like a business, a transaction, a deal. Providing people with a service could be positive. The problem is that no everybody would agree. Even I have trouble setting a limit. Think it can become bad, when it stops become non medical. It definitely sounds bad, unethical when doctor offer to craft a baby. - In a recent U.S. survey of 999 people who sought genetic counseling, a majority said they supported prenatal genetic tests for the elimination of serious diseases — 56% supported using them to counter blindness and 75% for mental retardation. More provocatively, about 10% of respondents said they would want genetic testing for athletic ability, while 10% voted for improved height. Nearly 13% backed the approach to select for superior intelligence.

Do parents want to predetermine the sex of their children? Appare ntly they do, One study indicates that 36 percent of parents would select the sex of their child if given the opportunity.

Moreover, this study also show that a substantial majority of parents would choose a mal offspring.

So, the sex selection through artificial insemination may dramatically upset the natural balance of things. We are in a society that eliminate "the crippled" , people not intelligent or healthy enough.

The Great thing in life is that there is diversity and we can evolve.

There are sur prises, opportunities, chances.

Without diversity, w e will be in a world, in which all the people would be similar: intelligent, in good health, pretty... Conclusion : Progress is change and we can't co ntrol it.

It's unpredictable unstoppable.

The problem is the way people use it.

We would need a world organization to "control" this.

Designer babies can be qualified of an improvement or not.

Nonetheless, It's definitely a controversial issue.

To my mind, Think it can become bad when it stops being m edical, when we will use it to select non medical traits.
