« Thelonious Monk Sadia Titouan Thelonious Sphere Monk known as Thelonious Monk is a pianist and a composer, so he played piano.

He was born on October 10, 1917, so 16 years after Louis Armstrong, the most famous Jazz player.

Thelonious was born in North Carolina. He was a Jazz player, more specifically bebop and hard bop musician.

Bebop is a Jazz style which set in place hard melodies complex, unpredictable (= imprévisibles) and experimental.

Hard Bop is an other Jazz style which developed between 1955 (nineteen-fifty-five) and 1960 (nineteen-sixty), this Jazz style same that BeBop, but Hard Bop contains more Blues and Gospel features than BeBop. Thelonious practice Jazz between 1944 (nineteen-fourth-four) and 1971 (nineteen-seventy-one).

He was a famous composer, because his improvisation style it was special.

He wrote Jazz standard which became famous. During her youth, Monk’s parents played also piano.

Monk’s mother played piano but she played also sometimes Trumpet.

She stopped to play Trumpet because she had a bronchial tubes problem.

When Monk had 11 years old, Simon Wolff give a piano Lesson to Thelonious.

After, the composer learn with Alberta Simmons, a pianist. She taught T.Monk to do the show.

He played to harmonium at church with her mom. He decide to stop his studies to do music. T.Monk reformed by the Army for psychiatric reasons.

In reality, T.Monk wouldn’t to be hired in the Army because he can’t participate in white war in a world where a black people are also mistreated (= maltraité). Monk begin her career in 1944 so at 27 (twenty-seven) years old.

During 13 years, Coleman Hawkins helped Thelonious to get started.

In 1957, T.Monk ask Coleman to join him for session with John Coltrane.

He will also play in Dizzy Gillespie’s big bang. During her career, he will also register for many labels. First label for which register is Blue Note.

Before 1950, her recordings are fails. In 1950, he records with Dizzy’s orchestra.

In 1948, Thelonious has been arrested by the police, because he had Marijuana.

After 3 years, the police find Drugs in Monk and Bud Powell’s car.

The drugs is to Bud Powell, an other Jazz player, but T.Monk wouldn’t testify against his friend, so the police remove her card during 6 years.

He can play only in Bar, Coffee… For Instance he played in Tony’s Coffee. After this label, he signed for Prestige, an other label.

He signed only for 2 years. He records Thelonious Monk Trio, Monk, and Thelonious Monk and Sonny Rollins.

In 1954 (nineteen-fifty-four) he participate to Miles Davis Bags’ Groove, but also for Miles Davis and the Modern Jazz Giants albums.

In 1954, he play and records in Paris and he is unwelcome. The third label is Riverside, a famous label.

During his contract, he have the right to recording only the standard Jazz who he wrote.
