Greek The son of Zeus and his own
daughter, Persephone. In order to save his child from
the Titans, Zeus repeats his own history by hiding
Zagreus on Mount Ida (2) and setting the Curetes
to clashing their armor and shouting, just as they
did for the infant Zeus. However, Zagreus slips away
as the Curetes sleep and in spite of brave efforts to
save himself by magical transformations into various
animals, the Titans seize Zagreus and eat him. This
myth represents the annual sacrifice of a boy, which
took place in ancient Crete in honor of Minos, the
Bull king.
