Patrick Watson's thesis is that, "the exploration of history is a rewarding activity only if it produces meaning out of the chaos of experience." I believe that is the thesis of the essay but it is exactly what the author is trying to argue. Throughout the essay, Watson is trying to persuade the reader to believe that history is pointless unless its taught in a manner in which the students can become engaged and truly connect with it. ...

a) An example of diction would be “so if we genuinely care about how history impinges upon citizenship (that is, our collective search for a civil society), let us fret less about what is catalogued in the curriculum, and more about how to stimulate the young inquiring mind .” b) The tone in this essay could be seen as hopeful and concerning because the author is truly hoping that society can change its ways to make history more interesting and meaningful. 5.

The author is comparing separatism to glue and illustrating how the evolution caused by people constantly fixing the problems that Canada faces or “tinkering” with it makes it that much stronger and therefore students should know more about doing their own part to help mold Canadian history. b) Parallel structure:. »
