Comparaison of power between blacks and whites in the 19th and 20th cenuries

With the help of 2 texts, we will show some differences which reigned between whites and blacks in the 19th and the 20th centuries. One of these texts is an extract from Uncle Tom's Cabin, written by Harriet Beecher Stowe in 1852. The other one is extracted from I Know why the Caged Bird Sings, written by Maya Angelou in 1969. Both of them prove Afro-American people, who are main characters in their stories. In the extract from Uncle Tom's Cabin, slavery wasn't yet abolished, but the slave is showered with praise, even if it also described that his white teacher is only thirteen years old. I Know why the Caged Bird Sings takes place in the 1940s, when the Jim Crow laws still applied.
