Phoenix Greek Son of Agenor brother of Cadmus, Cilix, and Europa. After Zeus stole Europa, King Agenor sent his three sons to search for her. The brothers could not find her, and not daring to return to the king, they settled down elsewhere. Some accounts say that Phoenix traveled westward, beyond Libya, to what is now Carthage, in North Africa. After Agenor's death Phoenix returned to Canaan, since renamed Phoenicia in his honor.
