Sherlock Holmes is the fictional detective created by author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. He first appeared in the book A Study in Scarlet,in 1887. He is famous for his intelligence, his power of observation and his ability to solve misteries. Always portrayed with his magnifying glass,calabash pipe and deerstalker hat. Sherlock shares his home with his best friend Dr. JohnWatson. They live at 221B BakerStreet. Mrs. Hudson is their landlady. Emily Watson is Dr. Watson’s niece. Professor Moriarty is Sherlock's arch-enemy Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was born on May 22, 1859, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was the second of ten children. In 1885 he received his medical degree at the University of Edinburgh. He was knighted for his work during the South African (Boer) War, in 1902. The Hound of the Baskervilles, 1939Published in a magazine in 1901 and volume in 1902, speaks of a curse that seems to hover over the Baskervilles: a demon appears in the death of family members who have not led a good life. This legend becomes a reality when Sir Charles Baskerville dies frightened screams evil.
