-Sherlock Holmes is the fictional detective created by author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. -He first appeared in the book A Study in Scarlet,in 1887. -He is famous for his intelligence, his power of observation and his ability to solve misteries. -Always portrayed with his magnifying glass,calabash pipe and deerstalker hat. -Sherlock shares his home with his best friend Dr. JohnWatson. -They live at 221B BakerStreet. -Mrs. Hudson is their landlady. -Emily Watson is Dr. Watson’s niece. -Professor Moriarty is Sherlock's arch-enemy -Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was born on May 22, 1859, in Edinburgh, Scotland. -He was the second of ten children. -In 1885 he received his medical degree at the University of Edinburgh. -He was knighted for his work during the South African (Boer) War, in 1902 -The Hound of the Baskervilles, 1939 Published in a magazine in 1901 and volume in 1902, speaks of a curse that seems to hover over the Baskervilles: a demon appears in the death of family members who have not led a good life.
