In the novel, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the main protagonist Jay Gatsby is presented as being great in several ways, such as being a romantic or the way he is perceived, however, this greatness is only limited to an extent. In one sense, the title of the novel is ironic; the title character is neither “great” nor named Gatsby. His real name is James Gatz, and the life he has created for himself is an illusion, in pursuit of a distorted American dream and the love of Daisy Buchanan
